In the middle of deep azure sea, sprouted a beautiful island named Sumilon.
An island down the Southern side of Cebu island is drawing the attention of locals and tourist for its beauty. Behold the beauty and charm of Sumilon Island, Cebu’s southern gem.
I had a visitor from Aklan and wanted to climb Osmena peak. My friend and I hit off the road before the crack of the day, taking the first trip of Ceres Bus going to Oslob at 3 for a climb in Osmena peak or more popularly known as O peak. My suggestion when having this early morning road trip have a good playlist to keep you company or have a book if you’re a book worm .
Hurriedly,we climb up above a thousand feet, the view from up above where the clouds and fog is panoramic then upon the disappearance of the concealing cloud, we saw a beautiful island and it change the plan.In the middle of deep azure sea, sprouted a beautiful island named Sumilon. It captured my guest attention and like a dramatically meeting, it compelled him to visit her. Mystical, magical, Sumilon is worth sudden trip.
From Dalaguete, it took us sometime to reach the town of Oslob, it was at almost noon when we arrive. The tide was almost at its peak and the crowd for whale watching is in full force. Having no arrangement beforehand, I it puzzled me how to get to the island. Gladly an instant friend offered a hand, his friends are also planning to go Sumilon that marks the start of our journey.
Sumilon island: The southern gem
Up in O peak 1000 feet above in birds eye view of the island. One can see, the southern gem, Sumilon in perfect vantage point. It’s alluring and inviting thus we head off directly there after that climb and see to ourselves the beauty it beholds. With a friend met along the way, we set our voyage to discover , experience and embrace the Sumilon island experience.
The waves were a bit hostile but it never scared us but take it as an some sort of entertainment before reaching the tranquil shore of Sumilon island after that wavy 10 minutes of cruising. The illuminating white sand of the island greeted us as we made our way off the boat, the clear water is truly stunning. I was hopping to see the famed sand bar but to my dismay the tide is already high.
But nonetheless it did not ruined the trip, there is still more to appreciate about the island. We jaunted around it and find ourselves enjoying the clear waters and played with the waves. To my surprise also there is a free scuba diving in the island hopping, the marine sanctuary of the Sumilon is magnificent! The underworld water is much more alive with the plethora of colorful fishes and different sizes of whorl coral reefs. Creating a breath-taking underwater garden!
It can be noted that Sumilon island is now under a private luxurious resort, Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort has opened its white sandbar open the public for a minimal entrance fee. Just have to rent or join for trip going to the island at its jump off point at Tan-awan, Oslob (the site for our whale shark-watching).
