A journey into the lost horizon, Camotes island!

With more than 7, 000 plus islands in the Philippines, one island in the Visayas piqued my curiosity, the Lost horizon of the south: Camotes island!

Discovering the Lost horizon of the south

With its history that dates back to the Spanish era and notes of  Antonio Pigafetta’s  mention about the island, the island rich historical significance with even up to this date leaves a mysterious past.

This lost horizon of the south island of Camotes is located east of Cebu Island, southwest of Leyte Island, and north of Bohol Island. Its a 2 hour road trip from the North Bus terminal of Cebu and a 2 hour cruising from Danao Seaport. It’s 62 kilometers north east of Cebu away from the mainland.

Camotes island is composed of the islands of Pacjian,Ponson, Poro and Tulang. Camotes Island has a total size of 20,964 hectares. Collectively, they are called The Lost Horizon in the South.”

The local way of going to Camotes

Normally, locals go to Camotes island via land from Cebu North Bus station located in M.Logarte Avenue , Subangdaku ,  Mandaue City , Cebu. If you get a taxi , it can take you there directly.  However, if you want to there  the cheapest way, ride a jeepney. Jeepneys going to South bus is with alphanumeric code 01K found on the side of the jeepney or in the small signboard above the jeepneys entrance or in front with the small signboard.

TIP: Want a day tour of island only? Secure to get the first trip  going to nortn bus, it gives you ample time to explore time the island in just a day.

After that 60 minutes to 2 hour trip depending on the traffic , you will now take a ferry at Danao Seaport in Danao City. It’s a 2hour cruising from Danao seaport to Camotes. Schedule per trip is every 30 mins or so.

North Bus Terminal to Danao Seaport = Php 70.00

Danao Seaport to Camotes =  Php200 (aircon) or 180 (non aircon)

Terminal Fee = Php 25.00

Camoted  to Cebu =  Php 200 (aircon) or 180 (non aircon)

Danao city to Cebu city = Php 70.00

Anywhere in the city to house = Php 10.00

Grand total : Php 552.00
